The theme of the design for these stained glass windows depict the relationship between the heavens and earth, focusing around the shelter of the church.

Our artist, Alan McDermott, saw his challenge in combining aspects of the mission statement with an existing window configuration containing the Greek cross created by four existing, textured, glass block.

He brought together, and elaborated on, architectural elements into individual focal points within each window yet with continuity for all windows as a whole. With the vision statement of the church, as well as the architecture, unique individual designs were created that relate to one another in a panoramic way. They combine the colors for all seasons and allow light to remain an important function.

This project’s success was illuminated by our American Institute of Architects Excellence in Craft award in 2004.

Alan has been professionally involved in the stained glass business for nearly 35 years accomplishing several accolades in the craft:

--Recipient, Best of show Boulder stained glass exposition as well as an award for “Artists choice” in 1981. (A stained glass studio only, artist competition)

--In an open competition held at the Port-Con Glass conference, San Diego California 1982, Alan also won notice.

--Alan was the first stained glass artist to ever have stained glass accepted in the “Iowa artist’s competition”.

Over his career, Alan has designed more than 10,000 stained glass projects for Churches, Synagogues, residences and businesses.
